Why Use A Financial Planner?

Just as a property owner needs to work with a contractor to build their dream home or an office building, a person planning for retirement can benefit from working with a financial advisor. I’ve discovered that the real value of working with a financial advisor lies in the guided financial planning services they offer. I never anticipated the great impact that I would have on people and families when I first began helping people plan for their retirement. Since then, I have seen time and time again how educating people about their options for retirement planning can help make their visions of the future possible. I have seen the opposite side of the coin, as well. If you don’t have a retirement plan, you may not get what you want.
SHIFTING PARADIGMS Change doesn’t happen on its own. It needs a catalyst. When it comes to your retirement, that catalyst is you. Putting money away in a 401(k), IRA, or some other retirement savings vehicle is something that many Americans do. It can be relatively easy to save money. The paradigm shift I’m talking about comes when you actually retire and stop drawing a paycheck. Now that you’ve saved some money:

  • How do you leverage it to provide you with income, meet your medical expenses, and help you achieve your financial goals for the rest of your life?
  • Do you know how you can keep more of your money each year with proactive tax planning?
  • Are you aware of investment tools that can preserve the value of your assets while providing you with income?
  • Do you know which life insurance policy best meets your needs?

I’m not expecting you to have answers to those questions, but I am expecting that you would like to find some. That’s what I do. I help people spend more time planning ahead by looking through the windshield toward their financial future, instead of looking back through the rearview mirror.

My process for financial advice is simple. I work together with clients, along with a team of qualified accountants, to develop proactive tax plans, investment strategies, and income plans that prepare them for retirement. The process is simple, but the particulars are unique to each person that I work with. The fact of the matter is that planning for retirement today is very different than it used to be for your grandparents, and even your parents. Career changes are more common, life expectancies are longer, healthcare costs are higher than ever, and pensions are rarer. You may need a different way to address this new set of rules. Even the relatively simple decision to file for Social Security benefits is quite complicated these days. There are somewhere between 10,000 and 20,000 different filing options for Social Security benefits today. Do you know which is best for you? Now consider the management of your 401(k), your traditional or Roth IRA, your life insurance policy, and your stock portfolio, never mind the complex and ever-changing tax environment. How are they all contributing to your retirement and your legacy?

Once we know where the chips lie, we can start crafting a financial strategy for your assets that can help meet your retirement goals and your life plan. Creating a Plan Achieving a goal starts with having a goal. Once you determine what your retirement goals are, we can effectively work backwards toward a defined plan.
